ICCO Investments, an investment initiative of the Netherlands-based ICCO Cooperation, received the first-ever IIX Trailblazer Award at the inaugural Impact Investment Trailblazer Showcase for their commitment to redefining finance and generating social impact in the global community.

ICCO Investments has invested in 24 impact enterprises across Africa, Latin America and Asia, impacting nearly 1 million lives worldwide. Within the next 5 years, the firm expects their impact to increase by fivefold. The Impact Investment Exchange (IIX) has had the pleasure of working with ICCO investments on its deals within Asia. IIX applauds the firm for their willingness to invest risk capital in difficult markets across the globe, their ability to quickly and efficiently mobilize capital to where it is needed most, and their determination to systematically optimize social and financial return.

“This award encourages ICCO Investments to proceed to support SMEs in their development in this challenging asset class. We strongly believe in the power of SMEs to contribute to improving livelihoods. It is a great recognition of our work.” said Mark Joenje, CEO of ICCO Investments.

The company was presented the 2016 IIX Trailblazer Award at the inaugural Impact Investment Trailblazer Showcase, an event celebrating leaders and trends at the frontier of innovation in the impact investment space. The showcase, hosted by IIX and the Shujog ACTS program with support from USAID, brought together over 100 key players in the impact investment ecosystem to discuss current trends, report updates from the field, and share the work of six cutting-edge impact enterprises from across Asia. Keeping true to the event theme, the Impact Investment Trailblazer Showcase venue, Food for Thought Botanic Gardens, and the event vendors were all impact enterprises.

Robert Kraybill, Managing Director of IIX, expressed, “Today’s investors are increasingly seeking to ensure that their investments generate both positive impact and financial returns. Countless innovative impact enterprises worldwide, including the companies we saw at the Impact Investment Trailblazer Showcase, have sustainable business models that benefit society and the environment but simply lack access to capital in order to grow. Impact investment addresses this issue while creating benefits for all stakeholders. ICCO Investments has seized this opportunity, and I anticipate many other players to follow suit.”
